..:|:Ladybug Mecca:|:..

"Sista of Conciousness Ladybug Mecca has been through a lot since the days of Blowout Comb, and now reappears with an evolved and deeply thoughtful pastiche of new gems. Many of the tracks have a real airiness about them, though we do hear the more familiar Ladybug/Mecca of yesteryear on at least a couple of tracks. Musical arrangements: impeccable. Creativity: way outside the box. Singing: ethereal."

..:|:Immortal Technique:|:..

Felipe Andres Coronel, better known by the stage name Immortal Technique, is an American hip hop artist and political activist. He was born in Lima, Peru and raised in Harlem, New York. Most of his lyrics focus on political issues. The views expressed in his lyrics are largely a mixture of commentary on issues such as politics, poverty, religion, social class and racism.
He has been offered a deal with a Sony development plan and Def Jam Records, but he has never signed any. Immortal Technique has voiced a desire to keep control over his production, and has stated in his music that record companies, not artists themselves, profit the most from mass production and marketing of music. The success of his decision to produce music independently can be measured by his strong and loyal fanbase, as well as claims of selling close to 200 000 units of his 3 official releases.
Technique is, hands down, my favorite, most obnoxious, politically astute hip-hop artist!!!

..:|:Dawn Silva:|:..

For those of you who still crave the funk rhythms dropped by George Clinton and his cosmic stable of funk acts (Parliament, Funkadelic, The Brides, Bootsy, etc. etc. etc.), you will not want to miss Silva's "All My Funky Friends". A former Bride, Silva and producer D'LaVance carry on the P-Funk tradition in grand style. Best tracks include "As Long As It's On the One", "Break Me Off", the title cut, and the fierce remake of "Disco to Go". This sh*t is funky wit a capital F.U.N.K.Y.!

..:|:A Fine Frenzy:|:..

"Songwriter Alison Sudol spent most of her life in Los Angeles, having moved there with her mother when she was five years old. She began playing piano as a teenager, with bands like Coldplay and Keane inspiring her whimsical, pop-minded music. After recording several compositions and sending out the resulting demo, the singer received an immediate response from Capitol Record's Jason Flom, who came to Sudol's house to hear her play and soon signed her to a record contract. Following a South by Southwest appearance in March 2007, Sudol -- who chose the name A Fine Frenzy (taken from a line in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream) as the moniker for her musical efforts -- released the full-length debut album One Cell in the Sea.
Sudol widened her audience by opening shows for Rufus Wainwright that summer. Her tastes expanded while on the road, and by the time A Fine Frenzy returned home, Sudol had become intrigued by the songbooks of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and the Talking Heads. Such varied influences convinced her to take more risks with her songwriting, and Sudol issued her sophomore effort, Bomb in the Birdcage, in mid-2009, embracing a wider palette of sounds in the process."

~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide

I have one criticism of this album, that is the tendency of some of the songs to resemble each other musically. However, since I seldom, if ever, listen to an album from beginning to end -preferring to set my player to shuffle and jump from genre to genre - I can handle the similarities, especially since Sudol is one of my favorite lyricists.
